Wedding Photo Shoot During Earthquake

May 27th, 2008 | 9 Comments | Posted in Photography, Totally Random

I did my first wedding photo shoot in the beginning of this month. It went by smooth and safe despite a little rain. Thank god. Imagine you are doing a photo shoot and everything start shaking… Things start to fall and the church you are in is falling apart… Scary right?

Chinese couple getting married in Sichuan, China

A Chinese couple went through this terrible experience 2 weeks ago during the deadly earthquake in China. Their shocking wedding pictures were published on the Internet recently. The photographer was very professional because he didn’t stop taking photo even though he was brought to the ground by the quake and falling debris.

Everything collapsed, but atleast none of them were hurt

Congratulations To Tzu Chi Foundation Canada

May 18th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Local Events

Tzu Chi Foundation had done a great job in raising money for China earthquake relief. I’ve never seen a relief fund set up so quick. On May 13, which was the day after the initial quake, I heard them asking for donations on radio already.

They have partnered up with local Chinese radio station AM1320 and T&T Supermarket to raise money as quick as possible. They have also set up donation booths in all major shopping malls in Vancouver. I am really impressed by their efforts. I’ve checked their website and since May 15 they have raised a total of $700,000 CAD. That is almost 5 million Chinese yuan. Congratulations and keep up the good work!

Let’s Help China

May 14th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Totally Random

Let’s put away your political views and bias for a minute and focus on the tragedy that happened in China a few days ago. For those who didn’t know, there was a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in southwest Sichuan China. The government had put a great rescue effort but more help is needed. Death toll is almost 15,000 now and most of them are children as a lot of schools collapsed during the quake.

A Picture > A Thousand Words

If you don’t know how bad the situation is, just head to Reuters.com and look at the image gallery of the quake. You will see how bad it is for the victims and their families. Your tears will start to drop as pictures are better than a thousand words.

Donate Now!

Because the quake erupted in a mountainous area and many roads were destroy, rescuers had a hard time reaching the victims. The first rescuers walked for hours to each to the critical areas. You don’t have to do the same to help those victims, all you need to do is contact your local Red Cross now and donate. The latest news from China is that it is badly in need of bottled water. Donate now and help get those water to the victims! If doesn’t matter if you are Chinese, Japanese, or American. Save some lives before it is too late!

Driving In China

April 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Technology

Any of you have been to China? If you haven’t, then imagine the whole population of Canada squished into one city. That’s the case of almost anywhere you go. You see people and you see cars. As Chinese people are getting richer and richer everyday, a lot of them can now afford to drive car. More and more cars go on the streets each day and you have a big traffic problem.

Traffic Rules Are Not Rules

If you are used to the traffic style in North America, please don’t drive in China. It takes a lot of practice and confidence in order to drive safely there. You wonder how is that possible. Keep in mind people in China don’t follow traffic rules. Yes, there are 2 way traffic, but often you will see cars driving on the possible side of the street. There are also lanes too, but no one sees them. You will see 4 or 5 cars driving on a 3 lane traffic. Most of the time you are only 10 to 20 millimeters beside the other cars.

The most important tip for driving in China

If you must drive in China, there is one single tip to remember for a safe ride. It is to be more confident and more scary than the others. If you are scared and you follow the rules completely you are in a more dangerous position. Just do what other people do and be even more evil, then they will give you your way.

3 Reason Why You Should Learn Chinese

January 14th, 2008 | 9 Comments | Posted in Technology

China FlagDon’t get me wrong, I am not going to tell you how China will become the strongest nation in the world. I don’t think it’s going to happen, but you should still learn Chinese.

Most of you already know the benefits of learning the Chinese language and feel a little tempted to learn. Why haven’t you started? Let me convince you briefly here. In my opinion, there are 3 most important reasons why you must learn the language. I know because I was born in China and grew up in North America. I received most of my education from western society but I felt that my Chinese root still needs to be kept. I am fluent in reading, writing, listening, and speaking both Mandarin and Cantonese. For starters I recommend learning how to speak Mandarin first. The reason why is that it is very similar to English and it is spoken by the majority of the Chinese population. I am not going to teach you Chinese here so let me give you the 3 reasons.

Reason #1: Everybody knows China has a booming economy. No matter where your business takes you in the future, you will have to deal with Chinese businesspeople at some point. For example, if you are selling something and you need a manufacturer in China, you are most likely be able to find a good one if you can communicate with them directly.

Reason #2: Chinese people are everywhere. Ever wonder what those guys are talking about beside you? If you can understand and speak Chinese, you have a big advantage. You can pretend you don’t know and keep listening to those secrets that pass by your ears everyday.

Reason #3: The Chinese language has incredible history, culture, and knowledge. The language is so powerful that a simple short poem written by Li Bai can change the way you view life. There are so much to learn from the language I believe it is the #1 foreign language you must learn in your lifetime.

If I didn’t convince you enough, it’s OK. I bet in the future you will hate yourself for not listening to me.
